As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.
The Detroit Pistons saw their 13-game winning streak snapped after a 117-114 loss to the Boston Celtics in their NBA Cup matchup on Thursday (PH time) at TD Garden.
Cade Cunningham poured in a game-high 42 points, but a crucial missed free throw in the final seconds proved costly.
Fouled while attempting a three-pointer with Detroit trailing 115-112 and 3.8 seconds left, Cunningham sank his first two attempts but missed the third, allowing Boston to hold on for the win.
The defeat was Detroit’s first since October 28 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Their 13-game run tied a franchise record, matching the streaks of the Pistons’ championship squads in 1990 and 2004.
Despite the setback, the Pistons stayed atop the Eastern Conference with a 15-3 record, matching the best start in team history.
The Celtics improved to 2-2 in NBA Cup play, while the Pistons fell to 2-1 in the in-season tournament.
