Carl Tamayo is questionable for Gilas Pilipinas in its road game against Guam on November 28 but could be in consideration for the home match against the same team on December 1 at the Blue Eagle Gym.
Gilas head coach Tim Cone said Tamayo is still having issues with his United States visa which is required for him to enter Guam.
Tamayo is based in Korea as he plays for the Changwon LG Sakers.
“I haven’t even talked to Carl, but what I’m told is that they (US Embassy in Korea) told him that they could not grant him a visa from Korea, from the embassy in Korea. He’d have to come here,” said Cone, bracing for an all-out war in the first window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
“We had to really rush and try to get him interviewed here, and his interview is like the day before we leave, so I don’t know how that’s going to work out, but originally, we were told he for sure he wouldn’t be in Guam, but he would be able to play here at home,” said Cone.
Cone though has options if Tamayo would not be granted with a US visa on time as the pool has been expanded to 18 players including Juan Gomez de Liano and Quentin Millora-Brown.
