San Beda University and Letran College aim to build momentum for the quarterfinals as the group phase of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 101 men’s basketball tournament comes to a close on Sunday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Game time is at 2:30 p.m., with the Red Lions seeking their 10th win in 13 games, while the Knights are eyeing their eighth victory before they take on an Arellano University side that is armed with a twice-to-win disadvantage in the quarterfinals.
“We still need to approach this seriously,” said San Beda coach Yuri Escueta, whose team holds a twice-to-beat edge in the quarters either against Lyceum of the Philippines University or San Sebastian College.
“This can dictate our energy for the rest of our championship chase,” added Escueta, whose squad is already assured of Group B’s top seed regardless of the result.
Meanwhile, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta looks to end its three-game skid in Group A at 12 p.m. ahead of the quarters, but standing in its way is Lyceum.
Possibly facing either Jose Rizal University or Emilio Aguinaldo College in the quarters, the Altas are looking to regain form, but equally determined to build momentum are the Pirates, who will face the Golden Stags in the play-in phase.
