The Houston Rockets suffered a significant setback as forward Tari Eason was diagnosed with a strained oblique and is expected to miss four to six weeks.
The update came from head coach Ime Udoka, as reported by NBA insider Michael Scotto, who wrote on X: “Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason has a strained oblique and will miss 4–6 weeks, coach Ime Udoka told reporters after practice.”
Eason sustained the injury during Houston’s 140–116 home victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.
Midway through the second quarter, he took a hard hit to his left side and needed assistance from teammates as he left the court.
The Rockets initially announced that he suffered a left hip contusion and would not return. Before exiting, Eason logged 10 minutes and 39 seconds, shooting 1-for-6 from the field and 1-for-4 from deep, finishing with 3 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.
The third-year forward, who will be a restricted free agent in 2026, had been off to his most efficient season yet, averaging 11.5 points while shooting a career-best 49.5% from the field and an impressive 50.9% from three across 11 games.
His energy, defense, and versatility have made him an indispensable part of Houston’s second unit, and his absence is expected to pose a considerable challenge for the team as they navigate the coming weeks.
