Tyrese Maxey delivered a sensational performance, propelling the Philadelphia 76ers to their third consecutive win to kick off the 2025-2026 season.
Maxey poured in 43 points and dished out eight assists, guiding the 76ers to a 136-124 triumph over the Orlando Magic at home on Tuesday morning (Manila Time).
With both teams trading baskets early, the first half turned in the Sixers’ favor late in the second quarter when Maxey caught fire, scoring 17 of his 43 points in the period to help Philadelphia build a double-digit halftime lead.
The Magic mounted a late push in the fourth, trimming the deficit to just two points, but a crucial three-point foul drawn by Quentin Grimes on Desmond Bane steadied the Sixers. Maxey then sealed the win with a flurry of buckets down the stretch to push the lead back to double digits and eventually seal the win.
Maxey continued his scorching start to the season with another 40-point performance, marking his second such outing after dropping 40 in the opener against the Boston Celtics and 28 against the Charlotte Hornets.
With his latest outburst, the one-time All-Star guard has etched his name into franchise history, ranking second in 76ers history behind only Wilt Chamberlain’s 1965–66 campaig for the most points scored through the team’s first three games.
Rookie VJ Edgecombe continued his impressive start to the season, finishing with 26 points and 7 assists. His performance brought his total to 75 points through his first three NBA games, which is the second-highest mark in 76ers history for that span, behind only Jerry Stackhouse by a single point.
Kelly Oubre Jr. provided a strong two-way presence, posting 25 points and 10 rebounds. Sixteen of those points came in the first half, where he shot 7-for-9 from the field and 2-for-4 from deep to keep the 76ers in control.
For the Magic, Paolo Banchero led the way with 32 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists in a losing effort. Desmond Bane added 24 points, while Franz Wagner chipped in 22.
With the victory, Philadelphia improves to 3–0 and sits atop the Eastern Conference standings even without their top stars Joel Embiid and Paul George. The 76ers will look to extend their winning streak tomorrow night when they host the Washington Wizards. Orlando, meanwhile, has now dropped three straight and falls to 1–3. The Magic will try to bounce back when they visit the Detroit Pistons next.
