The San Antonio Spurs outlasted the New Orleans Pelicans in a nail-biting overtime showdown, escaping with a 120–116 win to notch their second straight victory.
The game started with fireworks as Zion Williamson and Victor Wembanyama each opened with a slam dunk. Wemby quickly made his presence felt on defense, blocking Zion’s shots in succession. Both sides traded highlight dunks, but Jordan Poole’s back-to-back three-pointers helped the Spurs grab a 3-point lead after the first quarter.
In the second, Wembanyama continued to score inside, but the Pelicans answered through a balanced attack to stay within reach. New Orleans then closed the half strong with a 10-2 run to take a slim 1-point lead at halftime.
The second half turned into a shootout. Wembanyama kept attacking the paint while both teams connected from deep. Devin Vassell buried three consecutive threes to swing the momentum to the Spurs, but the Pelicans fought back and cut the deficit to just 2 points heading into the fourth.
Zion threw down a thunderous putback dunk to ignite the home crowd, followed by treys from Trey Murphy and Jordan Hawkins for a 6-point Pelicans lead. The Spurs answered with a 14-0 burst led by Harper and Barnes after Wembanyama checked out, retaking control. New Orleans refused to fold, responding with a 10-2 run to go back up by two. Castle then drilled a clutch three-pointer, Zion split a pair of free throws, and Wembanyama missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer to send it to overtime.
In OT, Wembanyama opened with a fierce dunk and a big block before fouling out with six personals. Castle took over down the stretch, steering the Spurs to an 8-point cushion. Despite a late Pelicans push, Barnes calmly hit two free throws to seal the deal.
Wembanyama stuffed the stat sheet with 29 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, and 9 blocks, while Vassell added 23 points and 5 boards. For the Pelicans, Williamson had 27 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals. Murphy contributed 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Poole chipped in 21 points and 5 assists.
The Spurs improve to 2–0, while the Pelicans drop a tough one at home despite a strong team effort.
