Rookie VJ Edgecombe made a dazzling NBA debut, helping the Philadelphia 76ers secure a thrilling 117–116 road victory over the Boston Celtics.
Tyrese Maxey led the Sixers’ fourth-quarter rally with a game-high 40 points, but it was Edgecombe who stole the spotlight with a historic performance.
The 20-year-old guard scored 34 points on 13-of-26 shooting, including 5-of-13 from beyond the arc, while adding seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 42 minutes of action.
Selected third overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, Edgecombe showcased his full offensive arsenal — throwing down explosive dunks, attacking the rim with confidence, and hitting shots from long range.
Edgecombe’s debut etched his name in the record books. He poured in 14 points in the opening quarter, surpassing LeBron James’ rookie debut record of 12 first-quarter points. His 34 total points also set a new franchise record for the most points scored in a debut by a 76er, breaking Allen Iverson’s previous mark of 30.
With the performance, Edgecombe became the first rookie in the 21st century to score more than 30 points in his NBA debut
