TNT won over Barangay Ginebra in the last three championship series they faced each other, but head coach Chot Reyes warned that the result could be different if his team doesn’t show up.
The Tropang 5G come in as the defending champions of the conference, but scampered their way to the finals, finishing the eliminations as the eighth-seed with a 6-6 win-loss record, and beating NLEX and Meralco in the semifinals.
Reyes said TNT goes up against Barangay Ginebra with a different squad with Chris McCullough as the import instead of Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.
Barangay Ginebra is also on a roll, ending up at No. 2 after the elimination round before upending Phoenix Super LPG and Rain or Shine in the playoffs.
“First of all, we are only the defending champions in name because it so happened that this is the same tournament that we last won. It’s a very different series this time. We have a different team because of the import that we have. The key is our ability to continuously adjust and adapt to Ginebra’s game,” said Reyes.
Reyes said in order to have a chance, TNT must also start making their three-point shots on a consistent basis. TNT shot just 28 percent from threes in the eliminations but was slightly better in the semifinals at 34 percent.
“We used to be a good three-point shooting team but we absolutely stunk in the eliminations. We couldn’t make any shots from deep the whole elimination round. Thankfully now, we are starting to shoot a little bit better,” said Reyes.
