Gilas Pilipinas faltered to its second straight defeat in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers, losing to Australia, 93-66, last Sunday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Elijah Pepper helped the Boomers pull away from Gilas in the third quarter to keep their unbeaten slate going at four games.

Pepper got Australia the lead with 12 points in the first half including a pair of threes on their way to a 38-33 halftime advantage.
He scored a game-high 28 points and shot 11-for-24 from the field, including 5-of-14 from the 3-point area. Tanner Krebs and Mitch Creek also contributed, scoring 18 and 13 points, respectively.

Justin Brownlee led Gilas’ offense with 20 points on 8-for-19 shooting. Quentin Millora-Brown added 11 points off the bench, 7 of which came during the first quarter. They were the only players to score in double figures for the Philippines.
With the loss, Gilas Pilipinas’ record fell to 2-2 in Group A. They will next face New Zealand on the road on July 3.
