Ball movement will be at a premium for Barangay Ginebra as it eyes a crucial Game 5 win over San Miguel in their semifinals clash in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup this Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Gin Kings racked up 34 assists in their Game 4 triumph over the Beermen, a result that evened the best-of-seven series at 2-2.
Asked about his team’s crisp ball-sharing, Ginebra coach Tim Cone stressed that hitting the 30-assist mark has long been a proven formula for success.
"That's our goal, we want to get 30 assists. When we get 30 assists, that's the game we know we want to play," Cone said.
Cone also pointed out that much of Ginebra’s assist production flowed through Scottie Thompson and import Justin Brownlee, whose playmaking fueled the Gin Kings’ ball movement.
"Justin creates a lot for us between his assists and Scottie's assists, we usually gets a lot. So when Justin's not here, we don't quite get as much, but still our goal is to get 30 assists," the veteran coach added.
